Just a quick update to let you know how the removal of my Mercury Amalgam fillings is going. After the first course of treatment I have been looking forward to the second course of the treatment , but as the day dawned I have to admit the enthusiasm had somewhat been replaced by a little apprehension. I had been taking the recommended tablets to assist with detoxification for a week prior to todays treatment, the expected duration of todays procedure was one and a half hours to remove four of the amalgams and replace with a non toxic hard wearing white composite. The first thing to sort out was whether the largest amalgam to be removed required a root feeling or not, this is sorted out by checking if the nerve is dead or alive, I can say catorgorically that the nerve is very much alive (nearly touched the roof when touched with some sort of electrical probe). Thankfully I didn't require a root filling which pleased both myself and the dentist. So kitted up with all the necessary safety equipment and injections administered the procedure commenced and took a little under the expected one and a half hours. I found it more tiring on this occasion than on the previous session, but I hadn't been feeling so well recently with disturbed sleep patterns due to increasing pain in my hips, groin and legs - typical symptoms of fibromyalgia. So I'm half way through my treatment and am very satisfied with the dental work carried out so far. I can't wait for it to be completed so hopefully I can start to feel some benifits. If anyone wants to ask questions please feel free to leave your comments on the "comments page" and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Add Comment Amalgam Fillings and CFS/ME 10/25/2010
First Visit to the Dentist Well after years of deliberation the day of reckoning had finally arrived, the start of my exstensive treatment to remove my 20 amalgam fillings. The previous day I had paid a visit to my chiropractor in the hope of getting some pain relief from my fibromyalgia which at the current moment is growing in it's intensity and frequency. He worked exstensively on my neck and shoulders but unfortunately this gave me a funny turn which left me fighting to keep myself from passing out; so nothing funny about it really. As a result of this treatment I was not feeling at my best to face the ordeal of the day when I arrived at the dentist for my 4 o'clock appointment. At 4 o'clock precisely I was called into the surgery for an expected 50 minute session, the dentist spent some time explaining what he hoped to achieve during this session and told me to hold my left hand up if I required him to stop at any time. He then administered the first of the 3 adrenalin free anethestic injections which made me shudder due to the sharp pain, but thankfully this soon passed and I felt nothing with the following 2 injections. I rejoined my hubby in the waiting room for no more than 10 minutes before being recalled into the surgery to commense the treatment. Well they were certainly taking all possible precautions to protect themselves with numerous layers of facemasks and goggles and high suction equipment. For my own protection I had to take garlic tablets with each meal for a week prior to treatment and charcoal tablets half an hour before and immediately after the treatment. I was made as comfortable as possible in the chair, a small oxygen mask placed over my nose for the entire procedure so I could breath mercury free air whilst all the drilling took place. Large volumes of cooled water was used to keep the amalgam temperature as low as possible and high suction equipment used to safely remove any debris. Cool damp cloths were placed over my face to prevent absorption through the skin of the mercury vapour and vaseline was applied frequently to my lips for comfort. All the time the dentists worked speedily and reassurred and encouraged me every step of the way. After the initial pain associated with the first injection I felt no pain whatsoever which was a great relief. The dentist showed me the finished work which I was totally satisfied with and due to the amount of work carried out I didn't get out of the surgery until 5.35pm considerably longer than first anticipated. Considering what I had just been through I came out feeling not to bad at all, to be greeted by smiling hubby and my parents who were over from Spain for the week. Maybe it was the combination of the oxygen and the relief of not having pain that put me on a small high. I am actually looking forward to my next appointment when I can have more of the amalgams removed which I'm sure have contributed towards my present condition. I have blogged previously about my concerns on the safety of my Amalgam Fillings, see attached links.. http://www.youranswerswithin.com/2/post/2010/07/mercury-fillings-hidden-cause-of-mecfs.html http://www.youranswerswithin.com/2/post/2010/07/toxicity-of-amalgam-fillings.html With my hubbys support we decided that we have tried many things to overcome my symptoms associated with CFS/ME and the safe removal of my amalgams would hopefully be beneficial to me on my long road to recovery. Now I knew I had a lot of amalgams but it was only during my consultation and extensive examination that I found out the true scale of the problem, a grand total of 20 amalgams, surely that amount can't be good for a healthy person let alone for one suffering from CFS/ME with it's complications of poorly performing immune system, fatigued adrenals, under performing digestion system etc, etc you get the picture. The procedures used by this Dental Practice were explained in some detail so for anyone thinking of undergoing a similar removal of their amalgams read on….. During the treatment the amalgam filling(s) are removed by sectioning, this causes mercury vapor to be released. This vapor is captured my equipment with external venting from a high powered suction unit. It is also backed up by a separate, powerful extractor fan and as a final precaution the patient wears a small nose mask to breath fresh oxygen for the duration of the procedure. Copious amounts of water is used to cool the amalgams during the sectioning procedure to further reduce the amount of mercury vapor being released. This water is removed by the dental nurse using high speed suctioning. The Dentist also explained that I should take supplements to aid with detoxification during the time the removal procedures are being carried out and to this end supplied me with the following list, which he said I should check out with my Nutrionist before commencing, Multi-Vitamins, Probiotics, Digestive Enzymes, Fish Oils, Charcoal, Sulphur(garlic with Biotin), Selenium and Vitamin C. Due to the amount of amalgams requiring removal he hoped to carry out the treatment over a period of four sessions lasting no more than 50 minutes. Depending on how I was coping, more frequent shorter sessions may be required. He also pointed out the following and to quote him " We all know mercury is poisonous but official guidelines have shown no real links to any known dangers of amalgam fillings " so no surprises there. There are no guarantees with this procedure, so it is the case of research what you can and take all the evidence available and then make your own minds up. It's not a cheap option to take, in my case the safe removal of all my amalgam fillings is £3,200 so it's quite an investment to make but if, and it's a big if, it helps me to recover my life it will have been an investment worth making. I hope to let you know how the procedures are going once the treatment commences so watch this space for regular updates. I nearly forgot to tell you that 2 of the teeth may require crowns and there maybe an additional root canal filling as well, which would mean an extra £1,500 approx so here's to hoping I don't require that. I have carried out some further investigation this evening and found a very interesting article which confirms my earlier concerns regarding the Toxicity of Amalgam fillings. Below is an extract from the article, Protocol for Amalgam-Mercury-Silver Filling Removal Once the removal has begun, the mercury vapor will be continuously released from the tooth. During the removal or placement of amalgam the patient can be exposed to amounts which are a thousand times greater than the EPA allowable concentration. PATIENT PROTECTION First in every concerned doctor's mind is the protection of the patient from additional exposure to mercury. This is especially true of the mercury toxic patient. The mercury toxic patient may have been exposed to varying amounts of mercury from diet, environment, employment or from mercury/silver dental fillings. All forms are cumulative and can contribute to the body burden. The goal of this preferred procedure is to minimize any additional exposure of the patient, ourselves, or staff to mercury. Toxins Within Mercury Fillings One of the Hidden Causes of C.F.S. /M.E.? As I have previously spoken about in the Waterless Cookware blog I have a bit of an obsession in researching C.F.S./ M.E. to find ways of helping my wife's symptoms. My research has thrown up some interesting facts regarding the toxicity of our amalgam fillings. What I have tried to do is take information from various sources and put it together into the following easy to read blog. Many studies have demonstrated undeniable links between the many varied symptoms of desease and mercury poisioning. Have dentists contributed to this mercury poisoning by the use of amalgam fillings? Amalgam fillings are made up of 52% mercury; the remainder being copper, zinc, tin and silver. Amalgam litterally means " mixed with mercury" In 1997 Sweden banned dental amalgam fillings and in 2000 Austria did the same. In recent years Degussa, one of the worlds largest manufacturer of dental amalgam, announced they were stopping the production of amalgam for fear of lawsuits. Why? do they know something we dont know? Amalgams represented 50% of their business. The World Health Organisation announced that we receive between 3 and 17 mcg of daily intake of mercury from our fillings. Many studies show that mercury gets released as you chew and particularly when you consume foods which are hot or acidic. No one likes going to the dentists but how about these for some disturbing facts. Autopsies of dentists have shown that they have higher than normal concentrations of mercury in their pituitary gland and have double the amount of brain tumours. Femaledentists and personnel are three times more likely to have sterility, stillbirth and miscarriage and all employees have a higher than normal concentration of mercury in their kidneys and endocrine system.....anyone thinking career change? When the fillings are ground as happens when chewing some mercury does escape as vapor. This can enter the saliva and be swallowed and can be converted to methyl mercury by the action of bacteria in the mouth and in the gut. Methyl mercury is much more toxic than elemental mercury. Many researhers suggest that mercury may contribute to damage to the immune system and increase susceptibility to immune system dysfunctions. Frequently, mercury poisioning causes unexplained Chronic fatigue/ M.E. symptoms Mercury vapor has the ability to penetrate rapidly into all tissues which results in initial accumulation in the brain which are high in comparison to the uniform distribution elswhere. As far as excretion is concerned, normally excretion patterns allow mercury to accumulate in the kidneys as it is released out from other tissues. The brain concentrations remain relatively high even lasting 10 years after the last exposure to mercury. Well , what can we do about it if we believe all the research? Having all your fillings removed is not as easy as you would imagine. You need to go to specialist dentists who have the techniques and equipment to lower the risks of removing years worth of accumulated amalgams. It's not cheap costing many thousands of pounds/dollars to remove them and it's not without some risk as mercury vapor is released and depite best efforts some can still get into your fragile system. Chelation therapy- Whats chelation therapy you might ask? Well I did, I had never heard of it until i started researching C.F.S./M.E. Simply put it's the use of a binding agent to detoxify metal agents such as mercury, arsenic and lead by converting them to a chemically inert form that can be excreted without further interaction with the body. So how do we do it? Well there's the expensive way by buying overpriced tablets or there's the cheaper way that my research found. Coriander/ Cilantro will detoxify mercury from neural tissues and is an inexpensive easy way to remove (or chelate) toxic metals from the nervous system and body tissues. Try this basic recipe for homemade Coriander/ Cilantro Pesto, it not only tastes great it does you good and it's cheap. It is recommended to take 2 teaspoons of cilantro pesto each day for 2 to 3 weeks this dose should help to remove the toxins accumulated from your amalgams and repeat every 6 months to continue the ongoing detoxification. Coriander/Cilantro Pesto Recipe 1 glove of garlic half cup of almonds, cashews or other nuts 1 cup packed fresh coriander/cilantro leaves 2 tablespoons lemon juice 6 tablespoons olive oil Put the cilantro/coriander leaves and olive oil in blender and process until cilantro/coriander is chopped. Add the rest of the ingredients and process into thick paste.( It freezes well,so you can make several batches at once ) I hope you found the blog interesting and informative, I think we owe it to our loved ones to try anything we can to help them on this difficult road to recovery and assist them to overcome the symptoms of C.f.S./M.E. *For all who read my blog, It would be amazing if you could forward my link http://dld.bz/mBZq to as many people as you know (twitter/facebook/your email list etc).
